Brent is an area within the district of Neasden in the London Borough of Brent. The neighbourhood is split into two sections by the North Circular Road, with its northern half being dominated by a large supermarket and an only slightly smaller household goods retailer and the south mainly occupied by local businesses and independent shops. Brent’s residents also benefit a great deal from the neighbourhood’s proximity to the even more extensive commercial spaces of Wembley Park, while Gladstone Park is also nearby to provide ample opportunity for sports and other outdoor activities. Brent is also known for being home to the Neasden Temple, which is the largest of its kind outside India. Its location astride the North Circular makes the neighbourhood and its retail amenities extremely accessible as well, especially with both London Underground Jubilee line and overground trains calling at stations within its convenient vicinity.

Households and businesses in Brent have the option of taking their refuse and recycling to Brent’s household waste recycling centre (HWRC), which is located on Abbey Road, to the south-west, just off the North Circular. The facility is open from 8 AM to 4 PM daily, except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and is able to accept most types of refuse and recycling. Also, unlike other reuse and recycling centres (RRCs), the Abbey Road site can also take commercial waste, though any businesses owners bringing it in will be charged accordingly. In the same way, however, soil, rubble, and other construction waste is also considered chargeable rubbish, whether it is brought by residents or business owners.

What rubbish collection services are available in Brent?

Brent Council provides all residential properties in the Brent area with free removal services for general refuse, recycling, and food waste, though the frequency can vary from daily to once a week, depending on the type and address of the property. Separate special collections for clinical waste (requires a recommendation from a GP or nurse) or social care or NHS equipment that is no longer needed may also be arranged with the council free of charge. Removal services for both garden rubbish and bulky waste in Brent Park, however, are considered paid-for services. The weekly garden waste collections cost £60 for one year of service, while bulky waste removal is charged £35 for every trip, with a maximum of five large items per collection. Bulky waste collections may be requested as often as necessary but will also be subject to the availability of slots.
