The E1W district in the Eastern postcode area mainly covers the district of Wapping in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets but also includes St Katharine Docks and parts of Stepney, Shadwell, and Whitechapel. The two main localities in the area underwent major redevelopment after World War II and have become mixed-use districts with a wide range of residential properties, numerous shops and restaurants, and even a large hotel, with the actual docks themselves being converted into a yachting marina. Residential options in E1W include both council and private housing, with a section between the two being covered by a massive development with over 200 privately-owned flats overlooking the rest of the area and sitting conveniently close to Wapping High Street. E1W’s local rail station is Wapping’s own overground station on the East London line, with Tower Gateway tube station and Shadwell railway station also located close enough to be convenient for those living in the east and west ends of the district, respectively.
