One of Greater London’s urban districts, Hendon is located 11 km northwest of Charing Cross, within the London Borough of Barnet. As is the case with many other localities in the region, the arrival of railways began Hendon’s development into a centre of industry. Hendon is most well known for having been home to the Hendon Aerodrome, which would eventually become the RAF museum. Hendon Central, one of its two main shopping centres (the other being Brent Cross), is one of the busiest areas in the district and home to its tube station, offices, and several parades of shops. Transport needs in Hendon are served by its tube and railway stations, a number of Transport for London bus routes, and the many minicab companies operating within the district.
