Harringay is an outer London suburb in the north London region, within the London Borough of Haringey. Originally developed as agricultural land in the Middle Ages, Harringay only came to be considered a proper suburban district at the end of the 19th century, after more Londoners had taken up residence in the area. Green Lanes, which runs nearly through the entire district, serves as its main shopping street and is home to a mix of both traditional high-street shops and more contemporary establishments that are a reflection of the area’s cosmopolitan population. Several outlets, a supermarket, and one of the country’s first drive-through restaurants are located in the Arena Shopping Park, to the south. Despite its status as an outer London suburb, there is a considerable amount of open space in and around Harringay. Its convenient transport links, which include three railway stations, two London Underground stations, and a generous handful of London Bus routes, are a large part of the district’s appeal to the London commuter population.
