Muswell Hill is a north London suburb within the London Borough of Haringey, and part of Barnet. Rather than an actual settlement or village, the area was largely just a collection of country homes until the end of the 19th century, with the opening of Alexandra Palace serving as the impetus for several development projects. The better part of the district’s development, however, happened in the early 20th century, during which the area was still called “Muzzle Hill.” Muswell Hill still retains most of its original street pattern, with its shopping parades mainly lining three roads that form an open square. Much of the architecture in the area, including those of its shops, is distinctly Edwardian. Despite not being served directly by a train station, the district still benefits from an adequate selection of modern transport links, including the East Finchley and Highgate tube stations, the Alexandra Palace railway station, and numerous Transport for London bus routes.
