Hazardous Waste in HA9

Other examples, such as cleaning chemicals and fluorescent light tubes from HA9 offices as well as fridges, and paints must all be dealt with properly through an appropriate hazardous waste management scheme in HA9.

Figures from the Environment Agency show that HA9 produced approximately 4,114 tonnes of hazardous waste from hazardous waste disposals compared to almost 5 million tonnes a year in England. Of the 4,114 tonnes only 36% was recycled.

In 2011, the government set the Strategy for Hazardous Waste Management to provide HA9’s companies with the needed support and guidance on how to correctly dispose of the 4,114 tonnes of hazardous waste it generates.

- Infrastructure management
- No dilution or mixing
- Treatment of hazardous organic waste
- Ending the reliance on the use of Landfill Directive waste acceptance criteria derogations
