The E6 district in the Eastern postcode area mainly comprises East Ham and Beckton within the London Borough of Newham but also slightly extends into Upton Park to the west and Barking to the east. While the East Ham section of E6 is classed as an urban district, there is a distinct shift towards a more suburban character towards the south end, particularly after crossing into Beckton. Nevertheless, the two somewhat uneven halves share many of the same local amenities, including a large number of parks and open spaces and multiple retail parks and shopping parades. Most residential properties in E6 were originally built in the 1800s, while the Docklands area also provides additional housing and shopping options. E6 is served by a wealth of transport links, including numerous Transport for London bus routes, East Ham tube station at its centre, two railway stations near the north end of the High Street, and several DLR stations in and around Beckton.
