Sitting right on the border between the London Boroughs of Islington and Camden, the Inner London district of Tufnell Park earned the better part of its distinction upon the opening of its tube station early in the 20th century. Known in the past for its wealth of dairy farms, the area remained largely rural until roughly the middle of the 19th century, when much of the initial development started. Many of the original houses and villas were eventually either subdivided or replaced with municipal residential options, allowing more young professionals and city workers to take up residence in the neighbourhood. There are relatively few shops and dining establishments in the area due to it being predominantly residential, but the major commercial hub that is Holloway Road is close enough to serve its residents’ shopping needs. While the Tufnell Park tube station remains the focus for much of the commuter traffic in the district, the Kentish Town, Upper Holloway, and Gospel Oak railway stations are also conveniently accessible.
