Situated 8.7 km north-west of Charing Cross and immediately north of Hampstead Heath, East Finchley covers an area across the Boroughs of Barnet and Haringey in north London. Despite much of the district having been rebuilt almost entirely from the ground up after World War II, East Finchley retained the better part of its original identity as a neighbourhood bound by strong community ties. Housing in the district is a diverse collection of different styles centered around three eleven-storey tower blocks that are clearly visible from the surrounding areas. Its High Street, considered by many to be the “greenest” in London, is also home to the highly-regarded single-screen Phoenix Cinema, in addition to the usual parades of shops. East Finchley is served by ample transport links, with its underground station receiving the bulk of its commuter traffic while being complemented by multiple Transport for London bus routes and other nearby tube stations.
