Limehouse is one of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets’ riverside districts. It sits in between the main route to the Isle of Dogs from the north-west and, to some degree, has benefited from the large-scale development its neighbour underwent as an eventual result of the closure of London’s docks. Most of its area was converted to residential uses during the latter decades of the 20th century, but many still consider Narrow Street its most significant stretch. Limehouse has also become known for its waterfront pubs, several of which are among the longest-surviving structures in the area and a testament to the district’s deep maritime roots. Limehouse Basin also features a busy marina, which has resulted in the residential properties surrounding becoming some of the most desirable in the district. Adding to Limehouse’s modern-day appeal are its healthy complement of transport links, which include a number of London Bus routes, its own DLR and railway stations, and Cycle Superhighway CS3.
