Swiss Cottage is a small area centered around the sections of Avenue Road and Finchley Road where the two meet in South Hampstead within the London Borough of Camden. It is known mostly for its main landmark, the Swiss Cottage which was built early in the 19th century. Despite being relatively small in size, Swiss Cottage is considered one of the busiest sections of the larger Hampstead district due to its wide range of commercial establishments and hotels. People also visit the area for its selection of restaurants serving South-east Asian, Japanese, and European cuisine. Due to its location, Swiss Cottage is served by numerous London Bus routes, which are further complemented by the district’s close proximity to South Hampstead, Finchley Road and Frognal railway stations and the Finchley Road tube station, in addition to its own.
