Bayswater is one of the districts within the City of Westminster located roughly 4 km west-northwest of Charing Cross, in West London. The area is one of the most densely populated in the region, which has led to the construction of several apartment blocks, a council estate, and the subdivision of many of its older properties into flats. The district has several high streets with Westbourne Grove and Queensway being by far the busiest, due in part to their selection of dining establishments serving international cuisine. One of the most well-known landmarks in the area is the Mitre, a Grade II listed public house that was built in the mid-19th century. While the Bayswater and Queensway tube stations are the closest to the district’s centre, the Paddington, Royal Oak and Lancaster Gate stations are close enough to receive their fair share of Bayswater’s commuter traffic as well.
