The town of Chigwell, in the Epping Forest district of Essex, lies immediately north of Greater London. It was originally a rural farming settlement, but has grown to become one of the most affluent and desirable suburbs in the country, due in no small part to it being part of the Essex Golden Triangle and the town’s proximity to London. Despite that growth, however, Chigwell has largely managed to retain its traditional identity and it exudes the feel of a wealthy country village rather than an opulent urban neighbourhood. The surrounding area contributes a great deal to its ambience as well, with Epping Forest, Hainault Forest Country Park, and Roding Valley Meadows Nature Reserve all just a relative stone’s throw away. Brook Parade, its main commercial centre, features a wide variety of stores, restaurants, and lifestyle service establishments, with more of the same found elsewhere in the area still. A handful of sports clubs and fields round out its list of amenities. And Chigwell is just as wealthy in terms of transport options, with the Chigwell and Grange Hill stations serving as the primary access points to the London Underground, and four other tube stations nearby providing more frequent trips to central London.
