East Ham is one of the main districts of the London Borough of Newham and covers most of the eastern half of the borough. The area’s more traditional East End character is exemplified by its residential properties, which still mainly comprise Victorian and Edwardian terraces situated along tree-lined streets. The commercial spaces that are found along its main roads, including East Ham High Street, feature a varied mix of pubs, cafes, and restaurants, along with a good selection of retail shops, while the ethnic and chain supermarkets in the area do an excellent job catering to the needs of its diverse, multicultural population. East Ham also has several sizable parks, which feature both open spaces and recreational facilities, to offer ample opportunity for outdoor activities. The East Ham tube station is the only rail station within the area, but is served by both District line and Hammersmith & City line trains to provide its residents with an adequate range of transport options.
