High Beech is a village within the ward of Waltham Abbey, High Beech is in the Epping Forest district of Essex and is still the only settlement inside Epping Forest. Its location within Epping Forest has lent itself to the development of a variety of courses and tracks for different outdoor activities, including hiking, orienteering, horse-riding, and even mountain biking. One of the walking routes, the 24-km-long Epping Forest Centenary, traverses the length of the village and was established to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the 1878 Epping Forest Act, which outlined the regulations governing the protection of the forest and the area around it. While High Beech might not have the usual selection of retail stores, the shops that are there see to it that basic needs are more than amply served. Unsurprisingly, transport links to and from High Beech are somewhat limited with two nearest train stations, Chingford and Loughton, both being over 3 km away. The London buses serving through the area, similarly, have stops relatively close by, but not anywhere in High Beech itself.
