Stepney is a relatively small district located near the centre of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and considered part of London’s East End. Despite a number of significant redevelopment efforts in the decades following World War II, the area has remained predominantly residential, with relatively densely-spaced housing options. Most of the neighbourhood’s commercial spaces, which include a good selection of pubs, restaurants, and retail shops along with several supermarkets, are located along Mile End Road, while the rest of Stepney has become more known for the buildings and open spaces in and around its irregularly-shaped conservation area. Stepney City Farm, which sits south of the junction of Stepney Green and the High Street, has also become one of the district’s most famous attractions and is frequented mainly for its tours and workshops. Due to the Stepney’s affordable residential options and its wide selection of transport links to London’s main business districts, it is considered an extremely appealing neighbourhood for the region’s commuter population.
