Learn more about Waste Disposal in West Central London
The Smugglers Way Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Wandsworth is a council-run site where residents of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster can recycle their household waste, as well as the Cory Riverside Energy facility (also on Smugglers Way), which collects waste and recycling generated by commercial businesses. In 2018/19, the Western Riverside Waste Authority recycled or composted almost 72,000 tonnes of materials, sent 7,024 items for reuse, recycled 5,187 tonnes of plastic, and recycled 1,713 tonnes of electrical and electronic items. It is therefore fair to assume that this district of London is particularly focused on sustainability and, similarly to Wayst, is taking action to combat the amount of refuse that gets sent to landfill.
According to the government guidelines the third step towards sustainable waste disposal is reuse. Luckily, the West Central constituency has several facilities that offer services to reuse discarded items and, when reuse is not possible, efficient, and environmentally conscious recycling solutions. Unfortunately the council in this area sends 48% of the waste it collects on behalf of its residents and business to landfill every year. With the local authority spending approximately £884,254 annually on waste disposal activities in West Central and only achieving a 52% recycling and re-use rate.
At Wayst we are focused on reducing the amount we throw away and reducing the impact that waste management has on the environment. We work with pre-qualified and trusted waste disposal partners in the West Central area to ensure that you can easily find convenient and cost effective solutions for any type of waste disposal. By working with trusted providers we ensure best practice across all types of waste disposal and avoid issues that can arise from noncompliance, such as dumping mixed waste and fly tipping.
